Interracial Marriage

Presentation An interracial marriage is a marriage between individuals from various races, referred to as Mixed marriage: marriage of two individuals from various races or various religions or various societies. Miscegenation: generation by guardians of various races (particularly by white and non-white people). Exogamy: union with an individual having a place with a clan or gathering other than your own as required by custom or law. Multiracial: made up of or including or following up for the benefit of different races, and Biracial: comprising of or joining two races. Interracial relationships are as yet a developing worry in the general public. Over the time, the quantity of interracial marriage has been increased to an enormous number. After such a long time, interracial marriage is as yet considered as an untouchable as per some strict and social explanation. Where simultaneously, it is normal in certain societies, however whatever the circumstance possibly, interracial marriage has the two upsides and downsides. Interracial marriage is the term used to depict relationships that happen between individuals who are from various racial or ethnic gatherings. Intercultural relationships are characterized as relationships between individuals who originate from two distinctive social foundations. A marriage between a lady from China, whose culture underscores the requirements of the family over the necessities of the individual, and a man from the United States, whose culture stresses singular independence, would be a case of an intercultural marriage. While connections between individuals from various ethnic and social gatherings are getting progressively normal, there are significant increments in the quantity of people participating in interracial or intercultural relationships. Notwithstanding, despite the fact that the number and cultural acknowledgment of interracial relationships is developing, little has been expounded on these relationships, the explanations behind their expansion, or their qualities and liabilities. Interracial relationships have a hard go at it. They experience the ill effects of the partiality of others, yet in addition from innate issues of contrasts between their particular societies which consolidate with those effectively present in a marriage. Ethnic gatherings carry assortment and lavishness to a general public by presenting their own thoughts and customs. Interracial relationships present such assortment. Ideally, everybody ought to commend this. Be that as it may, the world doesn't take a gander at all relationships as affection between two individuals regardless of their race. The Three Stages of Marriage Regardless of the race of the gatherings associated with a marriage, the marriage normally experiences three particular stages. These three stages either help the couple in building up a more grounded bond or the stages essentially add to debilitating or breaking the marriage. The stages might be recognized by the accompanying classifications: the special first night stage, the setting-in stage, and the goals stage. The primary phase of marriage is the special night stage. This is the phase when everything is new and awesome. The two gatherings are hopeful and sure about their future together, they accept they can conquer any snag. They esteem their disparities, and they cooperate to attempt to make the most out of everything and anything. In this stage interracial couples are quiet with one another, they face insignificant if any issues between themselves. Tragically, this stage should and ends. This stage closes with the interruption of a pariah who strains the two people. The outcast is typically someone in the close family. In the event that there is no outside gatecrasher, at that point the marriage moves into the second stage when the people in the marriage quit esteeming each other's disparities and start to consider their to be as deterrents. The couple starts to acknowledge what every distinction implies regarding spending their lives together. The second phase of marriage is the setting-in stage. In this stage the two individuals from the marriage uncover their conduct. The amenability between the couple is diminished and the couple discovers it continually contending in light of the fact that they have started to protect their own thoughts, and ignoring the thoughts of their accomplice. The various sorts of characteristics the people bring to the marriage are obvious to every individual during this stage. There is a disclosure of adoration versus similarity in this stage, which identifies with contrasts versus similitudes. The more contrasts the less similarity, the more similitudes the more love. In this stage interracial couples face a bigger number of hindrances than couples of a similar race, on the grounds that there are more components that should be talked about. This is where couples either make it or break it. The third stage in the marriage is known as the goals. In this stage couples have either commonly consented to remain together and disregard each other's disparities just as one another, or they don't imagine anything isn't right, or they are in a consistent condition of outrage towards one another and the issues they face. Numerous nterracial relationships don't make it past the finish of stage two and the start of stage three, except if they make game plans that the two of them can comprehend and regard. Masters of Interracial Marriages There are a lot of advantages that gather from an interracial marriage. The as a matter of first importance is that the offspring of this relationship are probably going to be preferred worldwide residents over those conceived from relationships/connections of a similar race. There is more resilience towards the decent variety of religion on the grounds that the accomplices figure out how to regard the distinctions and subtleties of every strict custom they follow. Their kids would develop with an expansive point of view toward God and the significance of religion. Once more, this is the need of the day. More individuals have passed on because of strict contempt than all the wars set up. Strict resilience and affectability is painfully required in today’s world. One of the best parts of this sort of marriage is that every one of the accomplices gets the chance to learn and encounter another culture and racial viewpoints, which others are denied of. Interracial relationships additionally give a chance to know different societies and figure out how comparable the vast majority of the races and societies are. Ordinarily an individual from an interracial marriage thinks that its simpler to get balanced with their parents in law, contrasted with their family, race or culture. Another positive thing about interracial marriage is that youngsters conceived out of this marriage are having a tendency to be more advantageous, which is a proof of increment hereditary assorted variety. Cons of Interracial Marriages There are potential traps in any marriage whether the couple is interracial or not however there experience been some normal difficulty detects that interracial couples have recognized in their relationships. A portion of the regular difficulty spots include: values, dietary patterns, sex, sex jobs, companions, parents in law, and bringing up kids. A portion of these issues cover, yet there are some particular differentiations between each. In spite of the fact that these are potential difficulty spots for a marriage, how much they influence interracial relationships is more prominent. Worth is what is viewed as positive or negative, set in stone, valid or bogus, significant or irrelevant. Qualities reveal to us a ton about who an individual is. Couples from the equivalent racial gathering some of the time have distinctive worth frameworks, and couples from various racial gatherings quite often have diverse worth frameworks. Worth contrasts cause contradictions and errors between the couple, which may prompt numerous contentions. All together for interracial couples to conquer esteem contrasts, there should be resilience from the two gatherings. It helps when there are a larger number of similitudes than contrasts in their worth frameworks. Food and drink likewise become an issue in some interracial relationships. Food and drink doesn't just comprises of what will be expended, it additionally considers how the dinner is readied, what time the supper is served, where the feast is eaten, and how it is eaten. Individuals from various races for the most part lean toward various kinds of nourishments, even individuals from a similar race who are from various areas have an issue with food, envision what individuals from various races experience. How might an American feel about eating tortillas with every one of their suppers, or how might a Mexican vibe about eating rice with every one of his dinners? Eating customs from various races can cause issues. In certain races the time a lady takes to set up a supper is critical of the amount she cherishes her mate, and in different races the companion won’t care if the spouse got the feast at the drive through as long as he gets took care of. So if food is actually the route in to a man's heart, what is a lady to do when the man doesn't care for her particular selections of suppers, and she doesn't care for his, would it be advisable for her to forfeit herself and eat what he likes? For certain races supper time is family time, yet for some others supper time may simply be whatever time the individual gets eager. In the event that the individual is accustomed to eating at explicit occasions during the day and making a banquet out of each feast, they may end up in a difficult situation when the mate is eating indiscriminately times, not in the supper table, however on the couch sitting in front of the TV, or the life partner just doesn't eat at home yet rather takes it in a hurry since his bustling calendar doesn't allow him an opportunity to plunk down and eat with the family. Consider the possibility that the couple doesn't have similar habits or manners during supper, who is to state which one is the right structure, and by what method will the contention be settled. For some, eating is a typical and non-undermining occasion of their day by day lives, for other people, particularly interracial couples, eating can turn into a type of trap in the relationship. Indeed, even sex can turn into an issue in interracial relationships. A portion of the issues that emerge in sex matters are: contraception, period, masturbation, number and significance of kids, virginity and purity, family respect, machismo and gentility, cleanliness, pre-marriage relations, conjugal devotion, sexual practices, homosexuality, interbreeding, dating, moving, sentiment, ho

How to Write the NYU Supplement 2019-2020 TKG

How to Write the NYU Supplement 2019-2020 NYU is a private university in New York City. 84,000 students applied last year, 17,000 of which were international students. The acceptance rate for the class of 2023 was 16%. NYU’s supplement is below:We would like to know more about your interest in NYU. We are particularly interested in knowing what motivated you to apply to NYU and more specifically, why you have applied or expressed interest in a particular campus, school, college, program, and/or area of study? If you have applied to more than one, please tell us why you are interested in each of the campuses, schools, colleges, or programs to which you have applied. You may be focused or undecided, or simply open to the options within NYU's global network; regardless, we want to understand - Why NYU? (400 word maximum)This supplement is wordy. And if you really read the question carefully, they’re giving you a lot to work with. They mention campus, school, program, and area of study; then ask you why you care about those things. And then they throw in a trick: “You may be focused or undecided.” Stop right there.  Under no circumstance can you write that you’re undecided. In reality, you can be unsure or open to options, but you cannot write that. That’s a trap. We’ve written before about how to choose a major for your college applications. You should read that post, but in case you’re lazy here are the cliff notes: colleges want to admit students with an academic plan because they care a lot about their four-year graduation rate and try to build well-rounded classes. That’s really hard to do with undecided applicants, because they might end up with 5,000 English majors that take 7 years to graduate. By writing about a major, you’re telling them that you have a defined path and will graduate four years later. The post we linked to above explains this in more detail, so check it out before you start writing. Back to the supplement. NYU wants to know how you plan to spend your time on campus both inside and outside of the classroom. They want to know what you hope to gain from attending NYU, and also how you’ll contribute to the student body. The best way to answer their question is by explaining what you plan to major in and what extracurricular activities you plan to involve yourself with. Those need to match, and we’ll explain that more below.  As much as this supplement is a research assignment, it still needs to be about you. The admissions team already knows what the school has to offer, they want to know how you’ll take advantage of their resources. Start by making a list of reasons you want to go to NYU. Write down everything that comes to mind. Your essay will read as surface level if it’s exclusively about classes you want to take with no personal reasons as to why. You can’t write that you’re going to NYU to study chemistry if you’ve never taken a chemistry class before. You need to weave the offerings at NYU into your academic and extra curricular experiences. Let’s start with academics. Perhaps on your list of reasons to attend NYU you wrote “I want to study music.” Yes, NYU has a department of music. So do a million other schools, so you need to start researching why NYU’s program is the best fit FOR YOU. Better yet, why it’s the only program you want to attend. Start your search by looking at NYU’s available majors. You should read everything you can about your desired major at NYU. Once you’ve gotten a handle on the major as a whole, focus in on more specific aspects. It’s not just that you want to major in History, you should have either timespans or areas of the world that you’re interested in. Maybe you want to study history, but you want to do it at NYU because of the class field trips. Whatever major you choose, you must find bits and pieces of information that can only be found by someone who took the time to get to know the program. Look at class offerings, professors, stalk Twitter and social media, research opportunities, and more. If there’s a specific reason as to why you want to study X major, you can start your supplement with what we call an origin story. It’s just a few sentences that explain how your academic interests came to be. We also understand that not everyone has one, so don’t force yourself to write something if it isn’t genuine. After you’ve familiarized yourself with your intended major, find 1-2 upper level (200-300) classes that you want to take. You can’t choose introductory courses or 100 level classes because those classes tend to be available everywhere. You should have a solid reason for wanting to take the class. If you’re choosing history as a major, that means that you’ve taken more than a few humanities courses in high school. If you’re declaring a math major, you should be familiar with enough topics and disciplines to choose a class that sounds interesting to you, and that you’ve learned about in school. After y ou’ve written about the classes you want to take, check and see if there are professors or research opportunities that pique your interest. Remember that it’s important to always be linking your academic past to the curriculum at NYU. Extracurricular activities: It’s now time to write about a club or student organization that you plan to join. You should write about something that is an extension of your activities in high school. So, circling back to the music major from above, they might look at the orchestras, choirs, and music ensemble student groups. Again, REALLY do your research here. Only some of the student ensembles are available to undergrad music students, so make sure you’re writing about something you can actually join. Making the mistake of writing about an organization that is only open to graduate students will send your application straight to the “no” pile. It’s worth noting that unlike most other schools, the database that contains information on th e student groups at NYU sometimes requires a student login to access. That doesn’t mean you can’t find any information about the groups, it’s just a little harder to find. Plug student group names into Google and go from there. There’s still a lot to choose from, so spend time searching through and find something that compliments your major.  400 words sounds like a lot, but you’ll need them to really hone in on your interests. Your highly specific, NYU-related interested. You don’t need a traditional conclusion paragraph, just wrap things up nicely before you hit submit.  Want help writing your supplements? Enhancing Cultural Interactions and Removing...

Introduction Since the development of technology, travelling and communication has become extremely easy and common. Interaction with anyone from any part of the world is possible at anytime from anywhere. Cell phones, internet, television and other technological devices allow us to interact and communicate with the whole world with just a click of a button. Because of these rapid technological advancements, we can now understand and interact with people from various cultures and backgrounds. Even before we meet any foreigner, we have an idea of how his/her culture is how people are in his/her country. That makes us assume and preconceive some notions as a result of which we interact accordingly. Electronic interaction is quite different from face to face interaction which is the reason why sometimes, people assume some features about various cultures. The information provided to us by the media is not correct always and obviously, every person is not the same. Therefore, culturally, we can say that cultural differences make it difficult for us to interact with other people from different cultures at times especially, due to the fact that we have created a cultural image of each respective culture. In order to understand this whole debate, we must at first understand what the definition of culture is. Culture is derived from the Latin word cultura which means cultivation. Monetary And Sustainable Development Uk Governments Have...

Macro-economic policy is designed to achieve the aims of full employment, stable prices and sustainable development. In order to achieve them, policies and targets are set by governments. These policies are mainly monetary and fiscal. In this essay, I will examine the aims and policy objectives which UK governments have pursued from the credit crunch of 2008 up to the present time. The credit crunch in 2008 was caused by irresponsible mortgage lending by banks. High-risk loans were made to people who were at considerable risk of not being able to repay them. These loans were then packaged together and sold on in to the investment market. Investors bought the safer tranches because they trusted the triple-A credit ratings assigned by†¦show more content†¦The stock market had a frantic time in the month from September 29th 2008, as shares decreased hugely in value. The economy was pushed in to recession. How did the UK government response to this global crisis? From 2007 to 2010 the Labour government was in power. Gordon Brown was the PM and Alistair Darling the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The labour government applied Keynesian economic theory to stimulate the economy. This would allow citizens to have more money to spend and help generate economy recovery. Interest rates were a key weapon in the fight. Between May 2008 and April 2009 UK bank base rate was reduced from 5% to 0.5% (where it has remained ever since). The government wanted to encourage the population to spend more by reducing the cost of borrowing. Between March and November 2009 the bank of England purchased  £200 billion of financial assets from UK banks, using newly created money . This so-called â€Å"quantitative easing† was designed to give banks more money to inject in to the economy. The Labour government also applied fiscal policy to the problem. They continued to run a large budget deficit. They also applied fiscal stimulus. In particular, they cut VAT in November 2008 to give the population more money to spend. The Labour government also effectively nationalised two major UK banks (HBOS and Royal Bank of Scotland) after their discovered how vulnerable these banks had

Analysis Of Animal Farm By George Oswell - 1094 Words

Animal Farm is a story written by George Oswell and is an amusing but heartbreaking mockery on the dominance of Soviet communism and the Russian revolution in the form of a fairy tale featuring animals who can talk, walk and live amongst each other trying to survive day to day struggles of life on the farm in which the animals live. The setting of the story takes place in England in a field where the close knit group of animal’s rebel against their owner Mr. Jones and forge an extraordinary attack against Manor Farm which they rename to â€Å"Animal Farm†, they go on to destroy everything that reminded them of Mr. Jones but sadly their hopes of bringing betterment to their lives, egalitarianism will soon be thwarted as a pig designated as the†¦show more content†¦Napoleon concocts a plan to get rid of Snowball so that only he would be in charge of the farm allowing him full control over the animals, he first makes everyone believe that Snowball stole the idea of building a windmill from Napoleon when in fact it was Snowball’s idea. Later in the fall, Jones and his men return to Animal Farm and attempt to retake it. Thanks to the tactics of Snowball, the animals defeat Jones in what thereafter becomes known as The Battle of the Cowshed. Winter arrives, and Mollie, a vain horse concerned only with ribbons and sugar, is lured off the farm by another human. Snowball begins drawing plans for a windmill, which will provide electricity and thereby give the animals more leisure time, but Napoleon vehemently opposes such a plan on the grounds that building the windmill will allow them less time for producing food. On the Sunday that the pigs offer the windmill to the animals for a vote, Napoleon summons a pack of ferocious dogs, who chase Snowball off the farm forever. Napoleon announces that there will be no further debates; he also tells them that the windmill will be built after all and lies that it was his own idea, stolen by Snowball. For the rest of the novel, Napoleon uses Snowball as a scapegoat on whom he blame s all of the animals hardships. Napoleon s lust for power increases to the point where he becomes a totalitarian dictator, forcing confessions from innocent animals and having

International Letters of Social and Humanistic †MyAssignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about the International Letters of Social and Humanistic. Answer: Introduction: The company is having its competitors inBiotronik; Boston Scientific; Medtronic; Ela Medical. The competitors are available with the devices with variety of approaches and many of its competitors are settled with merging and acquisition approach. The competitors are differentiated based on their products and the size of the product, implantation process, programming, product life and the varied software and hardware process. The threat of the new entrants can be fulfilled by the price strategy, which can discourage the entry of the entrants and the expensive investment that is required to manage the production of the product. Arelation is needed to be builtwith the suppliers in order to access the product design and material. The process of meeting the strict standards of the governments including the testing and quality standards can stand out to be a threat for the new entrants and for Aurora. Along with the threat of the competitors product which affect the sales of Aurora, the substitutes which are available for the same treatment are transcutaneous pacing anti-arrhythmic drugs which are preferred by the patients to take medication in place of doing implantation. The technological conventions such as the ICD, which are generated due to the changes in the culture, have also brought about changes and variedness in the customer preferences. The company reports the sales of its product per unit is $18750 which is relatively less as compared to its competitors. The buyers serve with the power of bargaining are highly affecting for the industry and the company as well. The choice of therapeutic approach depends completely over the patients and the physicians preference that will be providing with the treatment. Consumers are price focused along with the quality, size and company reputation. The option is upto the customers to decide that they need implantation or medication (Burton et al. 2015). Bargaining Power of Suppliers The company had less number of suppliers with respect to its core components supplies such as titanium, battery, cardio version. Small number of specialist companies designs these core components. Overall, the suppliers are common for all the products. Due to less suppliers in 2016 Aurora faced shortages of micro controller which is used in ACCUTRON, when the tsunami destroyed the Freescale production factory which was responsible to supply materials for devices. After building and designing, the products are undergone by the designing, testing and quality standards that are regulated by the government. The product is introduced to the market for the patients of ECG and is programmed accordingly to analyse various arrhythmias. The company focuses towards achieving overall cost leadership in the industry by producing low cost product with high availability of its product in the market. As compared to its competitors mainly the government companies, who sell the product at a range starting from $12000,the ACCUTRON is sold at $18750 per unit. The company built its devices in a complete clean room environment under microscope. These devices are handmade and are made by the help of trained facility. Among the private companies, it provides its product with less price and best offered quality. The workers who are trained make the products and development programmes for 6 months. The price is relatively low as compared to its competitors because of the researches that are taken place within the organizations production process. The investing amount for Aurora is over USD 650 million just for the training and development programmes. This stands out as the manufacturing price of per unit product as $7685. The company must ensure that product differentiation and brand loyalty had to be secured in order to gain competitive advantage as the consumers are primarily focused on the price, quality and reputation of the company product (Meihamiand Meihami2014). The company Aurora needs to primarily focus on its technological interventions and be reliant on its suppliers to increase the production and maintain the production of ACCUTRON smoothly, as it cannot affect the production per unit. The supplier, if changed, can be an issue as it changes the overall process of the product as such, revalidation, reprogramming and regulatory review of the new devices. The Accturon is in the growth phase of its market life cycle as the demand of the product is gradually increasing in the market. The constant rise in the development of the product as a trusted one and the gradual rise in the number of patients preferring the pacemaker to the medicinal substitutes and the treatment of the disease. The manufacturing company of Aurora has boasted of a constant increase in the sales of the product since its introduction to the market. The various aspect further boosting the sales of the ICD in Australia is the gradual increase in the number of the people with cardiac condition. It is estimated that that the number of the cardiac patients in the country will continue to rise leading to the increase in the sale of the ICD devices in the country (Dennekampet al. 2015). Majority of the people suffering heart conditions tend to prefer pacemakers to antiarrhythmic drugs as they have a large number of side effects including the worsening of their cardiac condi tion. The ICD on the contrary eases the process and it can be controlled remotely if it is causing any trouble to the patient. One of the major reasons of the success of the product is its pricing in the market. There are a number of factors affecting the market when the consumers decide to buy an important product such as the pacemaker, and their lives depend on it (Mond and Crozier 2015). The major reason for its success is the fact that the patients trust the brand and its price is competitive against the wide array of the other products available. The different aspects relating to the marketing issues related to the company include the production capacity of the organization. It is seen that the product sold extensively since its advent into the market till 2015 and there was a gradual decline in the books of sales for the following two years. Contrary to the popular belief the cause of the decline in the sales was not the lack of the popularity of the product but the lack of the raw materials to assemble the products. The product was dependent on the Japanese company Freescale to manufacture a number of microcontrollers that were to be used in the device. The destruction of the company due to the tsunami stopped the supply of the microcontrollers which were necessary for the manufacture of the ICD devices. This loss forced Aurora to include a number of different changes in the devices which included a number of programming and the structural changes. The programming and the structural changes made the production process to lag behind and the sales fell. The sales therefore do not show the true demand of the product in the market as the factory was lackin g the production to meet the market demand. The company is therefore placed in the growing sector of the different companies manufacturing the ICDs. The various types of the pacemaker available in the market are differently priced and based on the pricing and the build quality Aurora provides an affordable option with all the major technological hardware and the latest facilities. The pricing is one of the major reasons whythe product is quite successful. The cost of production shows that the company gains a fair share of the selling price as their profit. The overall growth of the market share of the organization along with the increasing number of patients opting for the affordable option for the long-term medication of the cardiac disorders has led to the success of this company and its growth. Strategic management in a business unit is the policies and decisions that are taken by the company in order to organize the planning and the operations of the business. The product that Aurora has to offer is an ICD instrument (Hill et al. 2014). Following are a few points that the management of the Aurora should consider while making policies: Research and Development Boost: As the product that the company have is based on technology and is for a patient who is under life threatening condition, focus should be on improving the product so that the cost of product can be reduced at the same time per unit cost of the item will also reduce this will allow the company to cater to a larger customer group. Though the insurance coverage of the public includes the cost of the process. The focus of the company should be in the short run on research investment and on manufacturing investment. CSR- Every organization is focused on sustainable development and Aurora is a company that deals with sensitive cases for their business prospect. To balance the situation the company should include corporate social responsibility as a part of their business model to help people who will not be able to recover even with the help of the equipment. The company can come up with strategies in order to help the people and to help the society (Stead and Stead 2017). Reduction of Manufacturing Cost: the manufacturing process of the equipment is high as the materials that are used in manufacturing are also expensive hence the company should focus in reduction of the labor cost by setting up units in countries where the cost of labor is low. This will help the company in reducing the price of the equipment even further. Though the company has advantage in the price category but this will also help the company in the future prospects. Diversification in the Product Line: there are other instruments that are used in the recovery of a patient these are some of the diversification option for the company. For example: manufacturing of mechanical limbs for the ones who require amputation. There are also many equipments that are required in the medical field the company should slowly proceed to expand the product line of the company. This can be a long term strategy of the organization and the process can be achieved with the help of recruiting scientists and more employees to support the diversification process. The management must come up with small goals and take calculative steps in diversification (Rothaermel 2015). Promotion and Sales: The Company can incorporate the process of direct selling with the help of representative like the medicine companies, the organization can have representative talk to the surgeons and the physicians talk about the design and the unique features of the products. There can be traditional advertisements in the hospitals and medical magazines. This will help the company build a brand value and will help in securing their place in the market. The company can request and present the qualities of the product with the researcher who are working in this field to include the name of the product in their paper which may have the potential to be published in medical journals (Huang andSarigll 2014). Brand Image: The company has to work upon building a brand image so that they have a recall value as they do not sell items directly to the user it is difficult to establish an image like any other companies do but with the help of strategic communication and promotional process the organization should work towards building an image of an innovative organization that cares for the patients (Wheelenet al. 2017). As You Like It by William Shakespeare Essays

As You Like It by William Shakespeare Essays As You Like It by William Shakespeare Essay As You Like It by William Shakespeare Essay Essay Topic: As You Like it A. The Forest of Arden at first glance, is a country life of arcadian contentment, rustic tranquility, a golden world in all its glory. A place to while away the hours like, the old Robin Hood of England. And so is portrayed and backed up with the seemingly content Duke Senior and his merry men. Duke Senior praises the effects of Arden on him stating its different virtues in the forms of a healer, a nurturer and a counselor. Its effects on the people who come from the court are drastic if not almost instantaneous and bring out some unique aspect of their personality which is not yet known. For Oliver and Duke Frederick, there is an almost impossible change for the better as Duke Frederick is converted both from enterprise and from the world. Furthermore the previously non-existent bond of brotherly love is created between Orlando and Oliver which in turn leads to Olivers conversion. In Rosalinds case, the Forest provides a source of unimaginable freedom to express herself without the barriers of court conventions (though this may be the result of the disguise alone). It is the place where she can love Orlando without the strict rules and regulations that governed her previous residence. Likewise Orlando is provided an escape from his brother oppression where he can leisurely convey his love for Rosalind. On the contrary, the Forest can divert from the pastoral convention as you peer into its harsh realities and its ill-effects on its limited population. Duke seniors opening speech was in reality an attempt to hearten his co-mates and brothers-in-exile. Although thinly veiled with heartening comments about the seasons icy fang as a counselor and the churlish chidings of the winters wind as a sweet use of adversity, it still remains that it is an icy fang and the winds do bite and blow upon his body. Although, the Forest of Arden does display salutary qualities when it comes to the characters outlooks and personalities, it is still a source of discomfort and physical pain, a barren desert. Another characteristic that is associated with Arden is its sense of camaraderie and of an egalitarian society. Where Duke Seniors court becomes a circle of brothers, where Oliver and Orlando become brothers once more, where Duke Frederick learns humility. But this is not completely so as we see an example of a cruelty and neglect in Corins master. Moreover Celia, a lively character in the opening act of the play progressively loses her energy as she loses her friend (Rosalind) to forest follies. The forest also comes across as primitive. This is proven by the venison of the forest. The poor dappled fools are subject to cruelty of the most primitive kind in their own dwellings. In conclusion, the Forest of Arden is in fact an ideal place for recuperation and introspection in the sense that many of the characters achieved transformations of sorts. However it is seen (with a few exceptions), that the characters of the play are unwilling to stay in the forest when presented with the alternative of the court. Therefore, the forest may be ideal, but is a short-lived idealness.

10 Ways to Turn Writing a Paper into a Drinking Game

10 Ways to Turn Writing a Paper into a Drinking Game College students have long suspected that universities and individual professors must buy stock in paper companies. For some, its the only explanation as to why college seems to be just one paper assignment after another. Conspiracy theories aside, writing papers can be tough. But when the grind wears you down, injecting a bit of fun can help get you over the hump. When it comes to paper writing, its time to turn to the same tactics employed by such literary luminaries as Ernest Hemingway, Raymond Chandler, Tennessee Williams and Hunter S. Thompson: Booze. However, college students cant just kick back with a snifter of brandy and mull over their literary choices. Thats way too pedestrian. Of course, the answer is to turn it into a drinking game. After all, its practically a college tradition. Before you begin, be sure to save a copy of your paper in a completely separate file, preferably on a flash drive. Better safe than sorry. Inspiration may strike during your game, but its always good to have a back up. You dont want to have to reconstruct full pages that fell apart because you got off on a tangent about the therapeutic properties of cat videos. Once you have a backup file saved, pick your poison. You can pick a selection of brews and assign each rule a specific brand or type or you can just pick one and stick with it the whole way through. Chances are it wont matter what you drink – the end result will be the same. For extra fun later, turn on Track Changes in your Formatting menu so you can follow along the next morning and see how your editorial decisions changed as the night wore on. Rules of The Paper Writing Drinking Game Every time you run into a 404 tracking down a source, take a drink. If you were tracking it down from Wikipedia, take two drinks. Each time you write yourself into a corner, take a drink. Every time you catch yourself writing in circles, take two. Take a drink for each syllable in any words you have to pronounce out loud in order to spell correctly as you type. If a page has more footnotes than actual text, take two drinks and toast Flann OBrien. Each time you stretch out a single paragraph idea into two or more, take a drink and pat yourself on the back. Take a drink and give yourself a slap for every time you catch yourself on Candy Crush Saga, Farmville or any other pointless FaceBook game. Have another drink each time to catch yourself randomly scrolling down a page and realize you completely forgot what you were looking for. Any time you find yourself in need of a friend with a subscription to JSTOR or LexisNexis, take a drink and hit up any journalism majors who happen to be online. Take another drink every time you catch yourself calculating how many words per minute youll have to write in order to get the paper done tonight. Every time you ask yourself how much bigger you can make the font or contemplating formatting changes to make your paper appear longer, take two drinks. Bonus Shots Any time you re-write a sentence more than 12 times For every set of Block Quotes you use to bulk out a few pages. Every time you say out loud Okay, down to work now. Each time you search around for single words you can stretch into more (i.e. changing it to the field of robotic psychiatry) Every FaceBook status update or Tweet about the progress youve made on your paper. Chances are youll end up with a screen filled with plenty of red squiggly lines and a few good ideas. If you managed to actually finish the paper – or this version of it anyway – during the game, that earns you a bonus round of whatever quality alcohol you have stashed away. Dont forget to save the fruit of your labor before drinking some water and passing out face first on the keyboard. But the fun isnt over yet! In the morning youll be eligible to play the super fun Bonus Morning After Game! Brew a pot of coffee, wipe off the keyboard and open the file from the night before. Re-read what you wrote and edited the night before. Every time something makes you laugh out loud, take a sip of coffee. Take two every time you read something that makes you wince. Finally, take a big gulp for any sections so inspired you leave them nearly intact in the final version of the paper. Heres also a guide on How to Cure Hangover for those who drank too much yesterday. Did you ever write drunk? Tell us your own story in comments!

How Far were the Parlements Responsible for Bringing About the End of Essay

How Far were the Parlements Responsible for Bringing About the End of the Ancien Regime - Essay Example This essay declares that the rage of Parlements against the government, the economic collapse and the financial downturn of Frenchmen paved way for the commencement of revolution. All these events took rise during the regime of King Louis XVI, debilitating the extent of his influence on the masses. Amongst all these factors, the parlements owing to their contravention against the King, are considered to have prominently led to the initiation of this revolution. This paper sheds light on the extent to which the parlements could be held responsible for bringing about the end of the Ancien regime. It also illuminates the motivation that made the parlements to take this stance against the government particularly in the era of the King Louis XVI. This paper stresses that the magistrates of court having prominent authority during the Ancien regime were referred to as the Parlement. Doyle elaborates, â€Å"the parlement of Paris was the highest court of appeal in a vast jurisdiction covering approximately one-third of the kingdom† . Parlements were the magistrates assigned by the government to register any law passed by the ruler and also, generally, to provide judgments on the cases that were brought before them. This is not to be implicated that parlements were merely unauthorized people working under the king’s dominance. Rather, these happened to be noble and prominent figures of those times, highly respected by the society as well as the government.

Southwest Airlines Fuel Hedge Program. Why Southwest Hedged Fuel Research Paper

Southwest Airlines Fuel Hedge Program. Why Southwest Hedged Fuel - Research Paper Example US Airline Industry Background An overview of the US airline sector reveals an industry setting with numerous considerations where heightened competition and fuel costs are key determinants of performance. Global fuel prices are highly volatile, a trend which has been observed over the last two decades (Carter, Rogers and Simskin 1). Fuel costs greatly impact an airline’s operations since they constitute about 17% of total costs, second to labor costs only. Moreover, ticket prices usually reflect fuel prices, hence, determining profit margins, financial outlooks and forecasts. The competitiveness in the US airline industry translates into a situation where the rising fuel costs cannot be passed to the service consumer. Southwest Airlines, as a major player in the US industry, among other things, specializing in short-haul, provides high-frequency and low fare point-to-point services which in the long run can be largely impacted by such volatilities in the fuel prices (Morrell and Swan 713-714). The inability to pass on fuel costs to consumers forces airlines to consider other strategies for surviving fuel prices fluctuation. Hedging is one of such strategies considered by airlines, such as Southwest, as a solution to the fuel price volatility problem. Hedging: Fuel Price Risk Management: Drastic changes in fuel prices are some of the major risks that may cripple airlines. For instance, political volatility in the Middle East- a major source of crude oil- disrupts global oil prices in two ways. First, war increases the local demand for fuel, hence, lesser exports. Secondly, normal extraction of oil may be disrupted during military operations. Carter et al. (4-5) provide an example of such a situation using the Gulf War, where the average spread rose by 8.1 times, from 3.5 cents to 28.5 cents per gallon. Trempski (1) offers another point of view concerning the jet fuel price volatility stating that a barrel of crude oil price rise from $10.82 in 1996 to $6 9.91 in 2005, had a negative impact on the heavily oil-dependent industry. Control of global fuel prices is not within the power of airlines such as Southwest; hence, there is a need for alternative strategies. Airlines use several instruments to hedge their fuel including over-the-counter (OTC) swaps, future contracts that are exchange traded, exchange traded or OTC call options and OTC or exchange traded collars (Carter et al. 4). Hedging in the airline industry, however, follows a unique format, where risk management is done on fuels other than jet fuels. The first reason for this is based on the refining process; products from the same distillation step share similar characteristics and highly correlated prices and future commercial outlooks. Hence, heating oil can be used to hedge jet fuel prices owing to the fact that their price changes and future contract price changes are highly correlated. Jet fuel is refined from crude oil, thus, crude oil is also heavily applied in hedgi ng jet fuel. The second reason is based on the nature of the jet fuel market which is not sufficiently liquid to warrant future contracts. Derivative contracts on jet fuel have to be based on OTC trading. On the other hand, exchange traded contracts for crude oil and heating oil are active and liquid enough, accompanied by low credit risks. Therefore, airlines interested in hedging traditionally use crude oil or heating oil

Anti Americanism in The Middle East Essay Example for Free

Anti Americanism in The Middle East Essay Anti Americanism in the Middle East is caused by various factors. Some causes are genuine and others are a result of peer pressure or influence by the leaders and radicals. Since the attacks on Washington and New York, the conventional concept and wisdom about the motivation that fuelled such deadly terrorism is gelled. This violence that we are often told is a reaction to misguided and misinterpreted American policies. For many years, some American actions such as its constant support for Israel and for the unpopular, oppressive and marginalizing Arab regimes has supposedly produced profound hatred and grievances throughout the people of Middle East. These grievances and hatred have come to a boil gradually over time, and this explains the constant Arabs attack on America and its allies by the Middle East nations. As much as anti-Americanism is largely spread among Middle East people and governments there is something that is highly misleading in this concept. Middle East’s Muslim and Arab hatred of America is not just, a response to the actual united states policies. The American policies have been highly pro-Muslim and pro Arab over the years. It is clear that such animus is obviously as a result of self-interested incite and manipulation by different influential groups within middle east countries, groups that employ anti-Americanism as a strategy and foil to shift public attention and interest from more serious issues within the middle east society (Katzenstein Keohane, 2007). Anti Americanism is sometimes blamed and associated to the former president George Bush. Bush is a lightning rod behind the anti American feelings in the Middle East. This is because of the multiple wars happened during his tenure in office. Another cause is the American policies systems and power fuel resentment in the world. People from the Middle East are annoyed by the fact that as much as America is a super power it does very little to solve world issues. America has a reputation of backing policies which increase the gap between the poor and the rich. Another cause of anti Americanism in the Middle East is the fact that they have put themselves above the law. The American soldiers have killed many innocent people in the Middle East and no action has been taken against them. When the Islam leaders kill innocent people America leaders arrests and even kill them. Amerce is always bulling the Islam nations by discouraging the building of nuclear yet they have nuclear bombs themselv es. The American leaders like Bush have never been summoned ti the International Criminal Court for charges against Humanity despite the fact that they have caused the death of very many innocent people. The Americans have killed many people with drones which is very inhuman and no action has been taken against them (Hollander, 2004). Anti Americanism in the Middle East is also caused by the fact that America has created a worldwide impression that people from the Middle East are terrorists. People from the Middle East are linked with terrorist activities by America. This has influenced people from other nation’s perception on the Middle East people. When American soldiers attack the Middle East countries they don’t expect them to fight back. The American soldiers kill innocent women and children and when the nations engage in war they are regarded as threat to security. Anti Americanism is caused by the relentless support America gives Israel. The American government has supported Israel in almost all its wars against the Middle East nations. This has proved that America is totally against the Middle East nation and consequently causing the constant hatred between the Middle East people and America. The Washington foreign policy seemed to support the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq (Rubin, 2002). Americans prize personal empowerment and prize individualism more than the Arabs in the Middle East. The cultural values in America completely differ with the ones in America. Americans are Christians and the Arabs are Muslims. The countries don’t go along because some things that Arabs practices are considered irrelevant by the Americans. The religious and cultural difference between the two countries has also boosted the anti Americanism. Another factor that has led to the anti Americanism in the Middle East is the conflicting attitudes and policies toward military and security issues. The war in Iraqi and other countries in the Middle East has led to increased tension and negativism from the middle east people. Also the American foreign policy contributes to the hatred. The foreign policy seems to be selfish and against the Middle East. In the American foreign policy it is clear that America has no intention of working together with the Middle East. The foreign policy depic ts Middle East as the threat to world security. Anti Americanism is also contributed by the elite politicians and leaders who incite and preach against the Americans. This makes the people to have hatred towards America without particular reason. The Muslim leaders consider America as the major national threat. This incitement increases anti Americanism as people are influenced by the leaders’ sentiments (Lacorne, 2010) The Media has also contributed to the increasing anti Americanism in the Middle East. The media constantly programs which depict Americans as the enemies. The media portrays America as gods of war who are jealous of other nations. America does not support when the Middle East countries explore the nuclear weapons. The media keeps covering the programs which show the man less American drones roaming in the Middle East. This makes people to have continuous hatred against Americans. The drone issues have increased anti Americanism because it shows they are ready to kill people from Middle East at any time. The Arabs feel like Americans are denying them their freedom rights. They feel that they are always under threat and this makes them to be unsettled. Some tv reporters have been recorded inciting the general public against America. Recently the media majored on the coverage of the anti Muslim video that was released from America. This video clearly showed that some Americans hate the Muslims who are mainly found in the Middle East. The video has also been a major cause of anti Americanism especially with the media paying attention to it (Crockatt, 2003). There is also anti Americanism in the Middle East because there are those children who have been left homeless and orphaned because of the killings and bombings made by the American soldiers. These children grow up with total hatred against the Americans. There are also many people who were victims of the wars and some are friends and family members to people who the American drones killed. This causes people to be bitter thus increasing anti Americanism. The children grow up knowing that America is the cause of their sorrows. They consider Americans as selfish nation which only focuses on its national interests and gains on the expense of innocent peoples life. Anti Americanism has become a culture in the Middle East children are told by their parents that America is bad and they grow up with fixed minds against Americans. This perception is passed from generation to generation in the Middle East (Crockatt, 2003). For many years, anti-Americanism has become and served as a strategy of last resort which unsuccessful, failed political personnel, institution and movements in Middle East strive to improve their reputation and standing. America is accused for so much that goes bad in the Middle East and the general Arab world. This in most cases is used as an explanation or reason for social oppression, political and economic underdevelopment. By issuing responsibility and excuse for their own mistakes and shortcomings to America, Middle East leaders distract their peoples attention from internal differences and weaknesses that form their real grievances. And hence instead of pushing for equality for women, greater privatization, democracy, freedom of speech, due process of law , civil society or other relevant developments issues which are sorely needed in the Middle east, the leaders focus on hating America (Hollander, 2004). Also during the Cold War it was popular for people in the Middle East to portray American policies as anti-Arab. This was despite the concrete evidence in the contrary. This rhetoric became a common convenient strategy for radical regimes and movements to create legitimacy of their own and to refer to their opponents as Western (American) puppets. The nationalist and Islamist Radical Arab regimes also accused America backed governments of ignoring human rights and being antidemocratic to its people, This is despite the fact that the radical regimes in the middle east such as Syria, Libya, Iraq, and Iran have worse records as much as human rights is concerned (Crockatt, 2003). There are various explanations as to why the American actions have been disregarded in Middle East countries. First, whatever the level of U.S failure to comprehend Middle East, the Middle Easterners have greater inability to understand the Americans. Throughout the Middle East movements and leaders have always expect Americans to attack and kill them since they are enemies. This has caused greater tension between the Middle East and America. Secondly, it is vital to understand how tightly news and information is controlled in countries of the Middle East. It isn’t surprising at all those masses, which are shut off from the accurate information to constantly feed on biased antagonistic views which are always hostile and against the Americans. The people who have the capacity to present more accurate picture or information in this case are discouraged by censorship, peer pressure, and fear of being branded American agents. There are also the efforts to reduce all the American policies to a single issue: America support for Israel. The policies and true nature of Israel are also distorted in this context. This element and issue is significant to the salience and anti-Americanism rhetoric. Some people radical Arabs believe that Israel as a country is an evil agent which seeks to dominate the entire Middle East by destroying Islam and killing Arabs. This explains why Arabs view America’s support to Israel as evil. However, the truth, is that America has merely assisted Israel survive constant efforts from Middle East forces to subdue it. The American-Israel relationship was most ambivalent during Israels first years of existence, the United States totally refused to supply ammunitions and other aid. This relationship only intensified during the occurrence of hostile actions from the Arab Middle countries, which aligned with Soviet Union to sponsor the anti-American terrorism. The radicals also want to ensure that America fails in its peace efforts. It also explains why terrorism is always increased by people from the Middle East whenever it seems that American diplomatic pursuit of unity and peace might become successful. This explains why when Israel withdrew from Lebanon, motivated by America, was rebuked as a sign of weakness and a mark that the Israels enemies should start violence against the state. Also The Attacks in September were planned and organized at a time when peace process seemed to be closest to success. According to political analysts it is not an accident that Middle East anti-Americanism was at its peak at the moment when America was proposed to back and support creation of independent Palestinian nation which had its capital in east Jerusalem (Ceaser, 2003). Anti-Americanism is also useful in the oppressive Middle East’s Arab regimes It allows Middle East leaders to distract people’s attention from their own problems and failings. Instead of the leaders responding to important demands and issues such as, higher living standards; democracy, corruption, human rights, and incompetence, Arab rulers accuse America for their own ills and misfortune and refocus their anger against America. Middle east Arabic states like Saudi Arabia and Egypt have over the years obtained weapons and protection from America but the leaders still promote popular anti-Americanism by state controlled media and government policies . Iraq for example has used the anti-Americanism policy as a strategy in its efforts to; escape sanctions, get back to the Arab world, and rebuild its military strength. America is accused for murdering the Iraqis through sanctions, and no one remembers Iraq’s forceful seizure of Kuwait (Hollander, 2004).   The Middle East anti-Americanism has also proved very useful for other people besides the politicians. Anti Americanism allows journalists and intellectuals to vent and focus their anger against the government-approved enemy (America) instead of risking to criticize failure and injustices that they encounter at home. Anti-Americanism has also become useful for the general public. Holding America responsible and accusing them for everything that is wrong in their countries and lives helps them to explain how their world operates and why life seems not to improve for them (Revel, 2003). The major reason behind the prevalence of Middle east anti-Americanism is that it has been a useful strategy and tool for the radical leaders, moderate regimes and revolutionary movements to build their domestic support and pursue personal goals which have no significant costs. As a strategy in the middle east, anti-Americanism seems to provide something for every person. For the radical Islamists in the Middle East, anti-Americanism has been a method of mustering popular favor from people despite all attempts to implement a theocratic revolution fail as a result of being rejected by the masses. The Islamists in the Middle East have focused on anti Americanism instead of fostering xenophobia or channeling their battle from one that is among the Muslims in the Middle East to a struggle between all Muslims and Americans who purportedly disagree with Islam and seeks to destroy the Muslims (Revel, 2003). Conclusion Anti Americanism in the Middle East is bound to get worse as the leaders and the elite use it as a tool for distraction or reason for underdevelopment and excuse of underperforming. America has tried to win out the heats and interest of the people of Middle East but their efforts have been in vain. Even when the Americans act in good faith or in favor of the Middle East people the radicals still find a way to demonize their actions and used it against them. The Middle East media system is also another major cause because the content covered is highly manipulated to show America as the enemy. The internal conflicts experienced in the Middle East countries have posed impossible challenge and dilemmas for American policy makers. When America helps some friendly Arab governments such as Saudi Arabia and Egypts, it is blamed of sabotaging revolutionary movements against them. When America pressures Middle East governments to improve their positions on human rights or democracy, it is blam ed and accused of imperialism. Anti Americanism is there to stay in the Middle East since it has grown into and accepted public culture and believe system. It is also supported my religion differences, Where majority of Americans are Christians and people from the Middle East are Muslims (Gentzkow Shapiro, 2004). References Gentzkow, M. A., Shapiro, J. Formalistic Approach to Ode on the Death of a Favorite Cat (Favourite)

Formalistic Approach to Ode on the Death of a Favorite Cat (Favourite) Formal analysis of poetry helps to unfold the underlying meaning of a poem. This technique does not focus on the author of the poem, or what was happening in history during the time when the poem was written, but instead puts emphasis on the actual mean of the work. Formal analysis breaths life into the literary work and allows the poem to speak for itself. For example, in Thomas Grays' poem "Ode on the Death of a Favorite Cat, Drowned in a Tub of Gold Fishes," paying close attention to word choice, structure, and rhyme scheme illuminates the actions of the prowling cat. The most important aspect in writing poetry is word choice. Thomas Gray did an excellent job in using descriptive words, along with using assonance and alliteration, throughout this poem to enhance imagery. For example, in the first stanza Gray describes the cat as being "pensive"(5) as it watches the fish below. This is followed in the second stanza as Gray uses alliteration and assonance to describe t...

Exploited Latin Women

The European conquest of the New World altered the lives of indigenous women. European women did not arrive to the New World only for years after the initial invasions. Indian women were continuously exploited in the form of labor, catering, and sexual gratification. Elite Indian women were able to gain a somewhat privileged position through their liaisons with the European men. As more and more European women began to arrive in the New World, Indian women were confined to the bottom of the ethnic and class hierarchy. â€Å"A particular concern of the colonists was that their â€Å"purity of blood† be preserved, meaning that no black or Indian people could enter into the family lineage. This in return caused careful controlling of women†s behavior. Under the regulation of patria potestad, women remained under the legal authority of their fathers until marriage, when authority was transferred to their husbands.† During the nineteenth century women†s public life was limited. Women also still remained legally minors. There were some advances in education which helped some women to enter into professions. There were also alterations of civic codes which ultimately abolished the patria potestad laws in many countries. Latin American women entered the 20th century with better education and legal status but with still restricted roles. Women initiated campaigns for equal political and civil rights. But despite some gains they continued to be discriminated, shaped by machismo, and poor women faced the double duty of family and employment. â€Å"According to historical records almost 30 percent of households in the city of Sao Paulo in 1765, were headed by women that were single, married whose husbands were absent, or widows. By 1802, this rose to 44 percent, falling to 39 percent by 1836.† This was due to the need of male labor migration in an economy based primarily on plantation agriculture. Taking the average age of female heads it is noticed that the female heads are an average of 7 years older than male heads. Many of the female heads are widows. Female heads earn less income than their male counter parts and on an average have less education than the males. One of the most notable characteristics of today†s poverty in Latin America is the growing number of women among the poor. â€Å"Today about 20 percent of the poorest households in Latin America are headed by women, but in some cities the percentage rises to almost 38 percent. A review of 22 studies of women-headed households in Latin America reveals that there is a strong correlation between female head-ship and poverty, and that such households are increasing in number.† There are many reasons why we are seeing a rise in the number of households headed by women which are in poverty. Women have less access to land, credit and technologies, therefore women farmers have to work longer hours and they have fewer assets and lower incomes than men farmers. Female headed households are likely to be poorer than male-headed households because they have fewer working members of the family, they have lower average wage earnings, less access to jobs and productive resources. Most Latin American women have less education than men. These are some of the key reasons why we are seeing a increase in poor households headed by women. There are more and more women working as wage laborers. † Fruit companies in Chile rely exclusively on women for harvesting, processing, and packing fruit. In Columbia women cultivate and pack flowers. In general they are paid less than men. In Honduras for example women are paid 70 percent of the male wage for performing the same tasks in tobacco cultivation.† It is clear that the women who do participate in the labor force and have the same education level as men are discriminated from men. Discrimination is clearly an important factor. It is not so much that female -headed households have lower incomes because of them having more children or fewer adults, but clearly the head of the household being a female, earns less. Because there are many women who lack education and skills, women in formal sector employment tend to be clustered in jobs that offer little potential for training or advancement. â€Å"In Brazil, Chile, and Peru over 50 percent of economically active women work in the service sector (1988).† Most of the women who do have better paying jobs in the formal sector are self employed. Usually self-employment doesn†t have much growth potential. The problem with women in the workforce doesn†t stop there. In households where there is a male head of the house, a women†s income is still highly depended on. Female income is often a secondary or tertiary source of income. Many rural families rely upon the work of its female members for most of its food. Traditionally the money earned by men is used only for corn and firewood, forcing the wife to develop her own income in order to provide for other family necessities. With less and less land becoming available for cultivation and unable to produce enough corn for the year, the men are forced to find additional income in order to supplement what they can grow. Female economic development has been hampered by the fact that women have found themselves utilizing traditional skills and market connections first established by their mothers and grandmothers. Rarely has a women ventured into learning a new kind of work. â€Å"Complete reliance on traditional skills has limited the economic growth of women.† Women seem to be moving away from the traditional family businesses. Within the last generation the women are going from traditional women†s work to more modern employment. The traditional model is one in which the daughters help their mothers with their family business and in the process learn enough to initiate the same type of business after they marry. The daughter usually starts helping her mother with her business around the age of nine or ten doing small but helpful jobs. By the time the daughter reaches puberty she is a competent and efficient worker. It is at this time that their daughters are a valuable asset. During the daughters teenage years the business is at its peak production. † When the daughter marries at 19 or 20 the mother daughter arrangement ends as the new bride turns her attention to her new home, and then the mother must rely on the younger daughters† to help with the family business. Then the older daughter becomes an asset to her new mother-in-law. The use of family members is very important for their business. Children replace workers that otherwise may need to be hired to run the business. Family members usually are more efficient and the families probably could not bare the financial expense of hired workers. Women in the work force have problems, but they also have problems within their families as well. The female as we have seen is depended on for financial income. At the same time the female has extended responsibilities and concerns at home. Along with working outside the home the female is generally the care taker in raising the children and doing domestic chores around the home. In general the females control the families domestic budget but this seems to be dropping with the rising standard of living of the town. â€Å"Stable marriages are rare, women believe, due to the inevitable failings of men whom they consider to be hopelessly unreliable.† Women of Latin America believe men do their best to live up to their insensitive macho behavior. Men believe they do not need to explain their intemperate behavior. Many Latin American men grow up to expect servitude and obedience from their wives. â€Å"Women are socialized to fulfill their subordinate, long-suffering roles passively, accepting male responsibility, wickedness, and foolishness as their destiny. Thus, women enter into a marital union expecting the worse from their spouses.† â€Å"Expected to succumb to his domination, she is both defenseless and immobilized.† More and more Latin American women with time are acting to protect their own interests. â€Å"More educated women are demanding more equality in marriage through the use of birth control. While they value the maternal role they are understanding the rising costs of having children and want more from the marital relationship than motherhood. They want their husbands to respect and trust them, and to forego extramarital affairs and other forms of abuse.† Today in Rio de Janeiro there are five police stations that exist solely to handle crimes against women. â€Å"While Brazil has advanced from military dictatorship toward democracy violence against women remains endemic. The first national study of the problem, in 1992, reported an average of 337 assaults on women daily.† Feminists in Brazil in 1985 made a serious gain with the establishment of the women†s police stations. Feminists moved for this because they believe male policemen don†t take wife beating seriously. â€Å"They see it as a domestic argument that has nothing to do with them and is certainly not a crime.† On paper, Brazil†s women have made great gains in recent years. The country†s 1988 constitution bans discrimination against women, requires the state to combat violence against them and mandates 120 days of maternity leave. In reality there still remains traditional theories of women†s behavior and much discrimination.
